Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Corporate Governance team, who are responsible for efficient running of all key decision-making committees and Board at TPR, working with the most senior stakeholders in the organisation and driving the continuous development of TPR’s governance structures and processes.

As Corporate Governance Business Partner, you will be part of a friendly, professional, and vibrant team. You will be responsible for running and managing one or more of our senior committees, own and manage key central government reporting requirements and you will provide advice and support on governance good practice and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

You will be a highly effective and confident communicator, be adept at identifying opportunities for improving current systems, as well as developing tools and resources to help improve the corporate governance function.

You will have the ability and confidence to simultaneously engage with and manage the expectations of stakeholders at all levels, and to build effective, mutually supportive relationships across TPR.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the Board Secretary and other members of the Corporate Governance team, to support senior stakeholders for example, CEO, Chair of Board, COO. In this busy and complex role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Board and committee service delivery: Leading the provision of support to the board, committees and other key executive committees of the regulator, including meeting planning, logistics, agenda setting and attendance at relevant meetings for minuting; recording and tracking actions.
  • building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders, representing the corporate governance team in a professional manner
  • accountable for the collation and distribution of board and committee papers, using Convene (Board software) and SharePoint
  • ensuring audit trails for key governance documents are accurately maintained and comply with data controls and measures
  • liaising with committee chairs, CEO office, and other key stakeholders to coordinate agenda forward plans
  • full preparation, management and delivery of Board and committee meetings
  • ensuring good information flows within the Board and its committees and between senior management
  • updating the registers for declarations of interest ensuring compliance and transparency
  • undertake any ad-hoc projects and activities as and when required

Essential and desirable criteria

Essential

  • Experience of building and maintaining strong relationships with senior executives and board members, communicating effectively at all levels.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of high quality, stakeholder focused, secretariat support to Board and / or committees.
  • Experience of working in a similar position or position with strong transferable skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of formal minute taking of lengthy and sometimes technically complex meetings (training can be provided).
  • Good working knowledge of the UK Corporate Governance Code and UK Government Frameworks.

  • Communication skills - ability to communicate clearly, concisely, confidently and appropriately at all levels, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organised with good time management, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proactive and flexible - able to present pragmatic alternatives and propose solutions.
  • Ability to prioritise and use initiative to meet deadlines, deliver on commitments and able to adapt to rapidly changing situations.
  • Calm under pressure, enthusiastic, positive and resilient.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Collaborative team player with a flexible approach.
