Role

Our Data team holds the vision for driving TPR towards becoming more data-enabled, by facilitating effective use and innovative exploitation of high-quality data and promoting data as a strategic business asset.

We’re on a fast-paced journey, and in recent years TPR has been through significant technological and business change, including having fully migrated to Microsoft Azure. As part of this, new systems, including an enterprise scale Azure data platform and engineering capability, have been stood-up.

We’re looking for a Data Modeller to join our team. Within this role you’ll support turning business problems into data design by designing and building data models to fulfil the strategic data needs of the business, aligning it to, and to support definition of, enterprise-wide standards and principles.

Responsibilities

As Data Modeller, you will:

  • be responsible for producing and developing a data modelling standard and framework, outlining key concepts and principles of data modelling, design standards against best practice suitable for the needs of the business
  • design, build and maintain enterprise data models, meta-data models (graphical data models and textual descriptions) including subject area models, conceptual and logical data models, entity relationship diagrams
  • locate or reverse-engineer data models from live systems to support view of ‘as-is’ and communicate requirement to support alignment to the ‘to-be’, creating a holistic view of the organisations as-is and Target Data landscape
  • capture business requirements - understand specific business problems to produce data design based of business need and usage for data
  • advocate for data, managing differing perspectives across teams
  • translate technical concepts into non-technical language across a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • liaise, influence, and work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business
  • assist with coaching, upskilling, and training of supporting Data Analysts, and provide guidance to Data Architects, and other members of the data management team as required
  • provide expert advice to business teams on data standards, engaging with colleagues early in the design phases of products and services
  • undertake data profiling and source system analysis and can present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data
  • provide data architecture assurance on projects or programmes as required
  • engage with stakeholders to agree, define and implement master data management, data architecture, and reference data management
  • represent Data on projects, working groups and governance committees

Essential and desirable criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of data modelling and data landscaping.
  • Proven experience across the data management knowledge areas including Data Architecture, Data Modelling and Design, Data Quality, Reference and Master Data, and Metadata.
  • Experience of leading the evaluation development and maintenance of metadata repositories, logical data models, physical database structures and database queries according to best practice.
  • Accustomed to working with data modelling tools and industry standard techniques to capture and document data artefacts and be knowledgeable on topics such as data lineage, data usage and data structures.
  • Stakeholder management across technical and non-technical teams.

Desirable

  • Certified Data Management Professional (Associate).
  • Experience of data migration planning and implementation.
